FLOODING: EKITI NOT OVERWHELMED — GOVT FIRES BACK
.... Our projects are built to last — Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun insists as Oyebanji/Afuye inauguration anniversary plans are unveiled

The Ekiti State Government has rejected claims that it is overwhelmed by recent flooding, insisting that proactive measures and environment-conscious infrastructure have put the state in control.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor and chairman of the committee Hon.Oyeniyi Adebayo and the state’s commissioner for information Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, stated this on Thursday in Ado Ekiti while responding to questions at a press conference on activities lined up to mark the inauguration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his deputy, Chief Mrs Monisade Christiana Afuye.

The Chief of Staff said it was inappropriate and incorrect to claim that the government was overwhelmed, noting that proactive measures had been taken to avoid flooding and that those steps had helped prevent the kind of problems experienced in the past.
He stated that all infrastructure built or being built by the administration is of great standard and built to last, with the environment duly considered in their planning and implementation.

On the recent floods, he expressed regret over the incidents of the past few days that led to the loss of lives, praying that the departed rest in peace.
He appealed to citizens at home and abroad to take proactive measures to protect the environment, urging them not to block water channels or dump refuse on the streets so that such incidents can be totally eliminated.

The Chief of Staff to the governor and chairman of the committee maintained that the government remains in charge of the situation and is able to deal with all scenarios, no matter how unplanned and unforeseen, as long as NIMET transmits information to the people.
Also speaking, the state’s commissioner for information Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun recalled that in 2022, the committee on environmental issues produced a clear report on erosion-prone areas across Ekiti, particularly in Ekiti Southwest and other most-affected areas.
He said the report is guiding the government’s environmental planning and response.
