Ekiti Govt Tasks Directors on Leadership, Talent Development, Mentoring for Improved Service Delivery

The Ekiti State Government has charged Directors and Deputy Directors in the State Public Service to provide purposeful leadership, develop talents within their Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and embrace continuous learning to improve service delivery.

The Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, gave the charge at the opening of a two-day training programme for Directors and Deputy Directors organised by the Ministry of Capacity Development and Training at The Gigmof Place, Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre, Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Dr. Olomojobi said leadership is not determined by position, urging participants to undertake honest self-assessment, strengthen their leadership skills and create conducive work environments that encourage initiative, innovation and professional growth. She stressed the need for senior officers to mentor younger officers, delegate responsibilities and deliberately prepare them for higher responsibilities through knowledge transfer.

In her presentation on Talent Management and Leadership Development in the Public Service, the Head of Service described talent management and leadership development as critical to building a responsive and high-performing Public Service. She urged participants to deliberately identify and nurture talents, expose promising officers to challenging assignments and institutionalise mentoring and succession planning.

The Commissioner for Capacity Development and Training, Prof. Patrick Olugbenga Tedela, described Directors and Deputy Directors as strategic drivers of government policies and programmes, stressing that smart leadership requires sound decision-making, effective change management and the ability to develop people and achieve measurable results.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Capacity Development and Training, Mr Bamidele Arowosola, said the training was designed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the participants for effective discharge of their responsibilities.

Arowosola commended the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration for its commitment to capacity development and prioritisation of continuous training and professional development of public servants in the state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Service Matters, Mrs. Janet Ajibola, said Directors serve as custodians of institutional knowledge and play a critical role in strengthening professionalism, discipline and integrity in the Public Service, while the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Bukola Ogunlade, urged participants to make mentoring and knowledge transfer an integral part of their management culture.

The training programme is part of the State Government’s efforts to strengthen leadership capacity, promote talent development and enhance service delivery across the Ekiti State Public Service.
