Court Remands ADC Assembly Candidate Over Alleged Rape

An Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Assembly candidate for Ado Ekiti Constituency I, Ayodele Babatola, in custodial detention over an alleged rape case.

Babatola was arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following allegations that he raped a woman at a hotel in Ado Ekiti on May 24, 2026.
The police prosecutor, ASP A. Oriyomi, informed the court that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and that legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was being awaited.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending the release of the DPP’s legal advice.
The case was subsequently adjourned till June 26, 2026, for further proceedings.
Speaking with journalists after the court session, counsel to the defendant, Owoseni Ajayi, said efforts would be made to seek bail for his client at the High Court
