Ekiti State Government Boosts Funding for Higher Institutions

In a significant move aimed at boosting higher education in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has given the green light to a substantial increase in the subvention allocated to all state-owned higher institutions.

This augmentation, reflecting the pivotal role these institutions play in the state’s development landscape, emphasizes Governor Oyebanji’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing higher education. It also reaffirms Ekiti’s status as Nigeria’s education hub.

The revised subvention allocations according to a press statement by his Special Adviser (Media)Mr.Yinka Oyebode are as follows:

1.Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH):

Increased from N261 million to N411 million.

2.Ekiti State University (EKSU):

Increased from N260 million to N410 million.
3.Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere – Ekiti (BOUESTI):

Increased from N175.8 million to N275.8 million.
4. Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan:

Increased from N45 million to N95 million.
5. Ekiti State College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero:

Increased from N26 million to N76 million.

This hike elevates the total monthly subvention to higher institutions in the state from N767.8 million to N1.27 billion.

Governor Oyebanji, since assuming office, has also greenlit the settlement of one month’s outstanding subvention to all tertiary institutions, a commitment promptly fulfilled. Furthermore, he has directed the extension of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) to both EKSU and EKSUTH, ensuring round-the-clock power supply for both institutions.

These strategic financial, infrastructural, and governance interventions underscore the government’s dedication to boosting excellence in the state’s higher institutions, equipping them to impart the cutting-edge education needed to empower the youth for 21st-century opportunities.
