...AS HE COMMISSIONS 3.6MW IPP ELECTRICITY PROJECT

In a momentous occasion highlighting Ekiti State’s unyielding commitment to economic growth, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has commissioned the state’s groundbreaking Independent Power Project (IPP). This visionary initiative, which came to fruition under the leadership of Dr. Kayode Fayemi two years ago, signifies a triumph of determination in the face of formidable challenges.

Governor Oyebanji, addressing attendees at the commissioning, emphasized the critical need for the IPP in tackling the persistent issue of inadequate electricity supply. Originating as a response to the meager 13 MW daily supply from the national grid, the project represents a testament to the state’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to power its urban centers.

GOVERNOR BIODUN ABAYOMI OYEBANJI DURING THE COMMISSIONING

The economic impact of the project according to the governor is pivotal, as it will conviniently addressed the challenges the state has faced, including impediments to industrial and economic growth resulting in high unemployment rates. By actively engaging in electrification projects, such as the rehabilitation of power lines, transformer installations, and the adoption of solar streetlamps, the governor emphasizes his commitment to revitalizing Ekiti’s economic landscape.

Leveraging the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023 and passing the Ekiti State Electricity Power Sector Law 2023, the governor has successfully partnered with a private company to independently generate 3.6MW.

The Governor explained that the power will primarily serve crucial government facilities, a strategic move to catalyze economic growth. Governor Oyebanji emphasized the broader implications, welcoming more investors into the power sector and urging citizens to safeguard electrical facilities.

This momentous commissioning marks not only a power boost but a beacon of economic resurgence, setting Ekiti on a trajectory towards shared prosperity.

The commissioner for infrastructure and public Utilities Prof.Bolaji Aluko in his welcome address described the project as a game changer for the state in electricity generation and serves as a model for other generation facilities in the state .

This initiative reflects Governor Oyebanji’s vision for economic rejuvenation through sustainable power solutions and a step further in actualizing his prosperity for all agenda.
