In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication to children with special needs, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, celebrated her 65th birthday by visiting special schools and a children’s home. Her actions were met with praise from Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, the Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on special education and social inclusion.
Mrs. Adetoun Agboola commended Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye as a rare individual for choosing to spend her special day with children from the state’s three special schools. This admirable act of solidarity follows in the footsteps of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who celebrated his previous birthday with these children.
In a true display of love for children with disabilities, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye extended her birthday celebrations to the Government Special Schools in Ikere, Ido, and Ikoro Ekiti, as well as the Children’s Home at Iyin Ekiti.
Chief Mrs. Afuye expressed her gratitude to God for the opportunity to celebrate another year of life. Her decision to prioritize these children over a grand party at the government house underscores her commitment to the welfare of the less privileged and children with disability, aligning with Governor Oyebanji’s administration’s dedication to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
Hon. Adetoun Agboola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, lauded the Deputy Governor for placing children at the forefront of her birthday celebration.
She emphasized that disability should never be seen as a barrier to achieving one’s dreams and assured that Governor BAO’s administration would continue to focus on children with special needs, aiming to empower them to become valuable members of society.
She stressed further on the need for the children to know that they can achieve their dreams irrespective of their disabilities while encouraging that people and the society at large should fully accept them.
As part of her birthday celebration, the Deputy Governor generously donated essential supplies to the children, including bags of rice, beans, biscuits, and financial contributions to the institutions. Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye’s selfless act sets an inspiring example of public service and compassion for all to follow.
