Engr. Olabode Stephen Adetunji, Technical Advisor to the Governor for the Local Government Project Monitoring and Evaluation, has commended the consensus candidacy of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, describing it as a testament to political maturity and a mandate for sustained development in Ekiti State.

He gave the commendation on Monday in Ado Ekiti after the formal ratification of Governor Oyebanji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sole gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election, which held on at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti.
Engr. Adetunji urged unified support for the Governor, emphasizing that the endorsement reflects widespread approval of his first-term projects and policies.

The event, a special nomination congress supervised by a committee chaired by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, saw 885 delegates from all 16 local government areas unanimously endorse Governor Oyebanji.

The outcome was achieved through a consensus arrangement, a process approved by the party’s National Working Committee after the voluntary withdrawal of the only other cleared aspirant, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, thereby leaving Oyebanji as the sole contender.

The ratification was formally moved as a motion by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen, in accordance with the Electoral Act done to officially affirm the party’s decision and ensure procedural compliance, signalling a united front ahead of the 2026 polls.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude, dedicating the victory to God and thanking the party, delegates, and President Bola Tinubu for their trust and support.
Governor Oyebanji hailed the consensus as an unprecedented milestone that strengthens the party’s stability and promotes continued governance. He pledged to consolidate the gains of his administration, focusing on further service to the people of Ekiti State.
The historic exercise, which took place under heavy security, concludes the party’s internal selection process, positioning Governor Oyebanji as the APC flagbearer for the 2026 gubernatorial election.
