...FUTES' Mandate Is to Put Nigeria On A Global Map in Terms of Technology

The Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, FUTES, Iyin Ekiti, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, has promised to leave a legacy that extends beyond a mere career in office.

Professor Aribisala, who made this known in Ado Ekiti, while featuring on a Television programme, said that the university has the mandate to develop technology, produce a set of graduates who would place Nigeria on a World map in terms of technology and academic excellence.

“Nigeria has the potential to be like other developed countries in terms of technology, we can also produce so many things that can enhance the quality of life without necessarily importing them, In fact, we can do it, I have started laying the foundation for meaningful changes in technology and we want people to support us to achieve the lofty dream”.

Professor Aribisala said that FUTES was ready to produce graduates who were passionate about meaningful development and not about white caller jobs, saying that the present world required people who are technologically driven.

He said that part of the measures to achieve these mandates were some of the courses put in place like Robotics, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering

Data Science, Mechatronics apart from other conventional courses, say that

The university was ready to partner with individuals, groups and organisations to achieve the needed development and not about making money.

“We are ready to create knowledge, give back to society and make life meaningful through academic excellence and help our students see reason in academic excellence and place the country on a sound footing in terms of technology”.

While speaking on the admission process into FUTES, Professor Aribisala advised those who wrote this year’s JAMB and want to study in the University to change their school of choice to the institution’s on the JAMB portal and do other processes on futes website www.futes.edu.ng, saying that they have just Friday next week to do so.

Professor Aribisala said,” Admission process across public universities would close by the end of October. We have just this week, Friday, to close our portal. Students who are interested in our university could still take advantage to do the needful.

“After closing our portal, we would start giving admission to students who merit it. We are not going to give admission based on let my people go stuff, no and no. We have a passion for excellence, and we are ready to pursue it with pride. JAMB is 60 per cent and WAEC is 40 per cent.”

While speaking on the recruitment process into the university, Professor Aribisala explained that eighty per cent of the academic and non-academic staff would be experienced hands, while the remaining per cent would be young graduates, saying that the university could not afford to start on a note of trial and error.

He said Lecturers who have made their mark in academics and experienced people in the university’s administration should apply immediately to the university’s placement advertisement for recruitment.

“By the end of this month, October, the university would place a recruitment advertisement and we want people across the country to apply, but only competent hands would be given employment. It is going to be competitive and ICT compliance, those who do not vast in computer can still learn it, we are going to have people from the Federal Character, Ministry of Education and NUC in our panel of interviewers”

The FUTES Vice Chancellor, however, called on individuals, groups and organisations that were ready to build hostels, halls, classrooms and other things to help the university to show up, saying that such would be named after them or placed in partnership.
