The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to gender equality, social protection, and improved access to education and healthcare for women and children. This assurance was made by the Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC), Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, during an empowerment program organized for families with multiple births and elderly women in Oke-Imesi, Ekiti.

Mrs. Famuyiwa emphasized that the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji was committed to fostering an environment where women and children can thrive. She praised Mrs. Feyisayo Betty Ajibade, the Wife of the Chairman of Oke-Imesi/Ido-Ile Local Council Development Area (LCDA), for successfully replicating the state-level empowerment initiatives led by Ekiti’s First Lady, Prof. (Mrs.) Olayemi Oyebanji.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Mrs. Famuyiwa expressed gratitude to the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her initiatives aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by families with multiple births and elderly women in Nigeria. She called on non-governmental organizations and international partners to join forces with the government to foster a supportive environment for women and children in Ekiti.
In a heartfelt tribute, the Director-General expressed deep gratitude for the legacy of the late Mrs Mary Slessor in Nigeria who dedicated her life to transforming societal attitudes toward multiple births. Recognizing her unwavering love for the community, the Director-General highlighted Mrs Slessor’s pivotal role in halting the tragic practice of twin killings, reframing the perception of multiple births from a taboo to a divine blessing. Her compassionate efforts not only saved countless lives but also fostered a greater understanding of the value of every child, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Ajibade emphasized that the event was not merely about distributing items. “It is about giving hope, showing love, and reaffirming our commitment to the well-being of our people,” she stated. She reassured mothers and grandmothers that they are valued and cared for, stressing that multiple births should be seen as blessings rather than burdens.
This initiative aligns with the vision of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is dedicated to uplifting women, children, and families through various impactful programs. In Ekiti, this vision is furthered by Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, who promotes grassroots interventions across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The empowerment exercise aims to ease the financial burdens of raising multiple children and to honour elderly women for their contributions to family and community development. The packages distributed during the event are designed to improve the daily lives of beneficiaries, inspire confidence, and promote dignity.
The Executive Chairman Oke-Imesi/Ido-Ile LCDA, Hon. Ajibade Sunday Owolabi acknowledged the Executive Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his inclusive leadership and commitment to grassroots development, noting that his policies effectively bridge the gap between government and citizens.
Hon. Ajibade, congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to make the best use of the items received and reminding them that their contributions are appreciated.
