EKITI L-PRES CONSTRUCTS FARMER FIELD SCHOOL ACROSS THREE SENATORIAL DISTRICTS

In a major step to boost livestock productivity and promote modern animal husbandry practices, the Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has commenced the construction of farmers’ demonstration pens across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Speaking during an inspection visit to one of the project sites at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Premises at Ikole Ekiti, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe emphasized the strategic importance of the pens in enhancing knowledge transfer to livestock farmers.

He stated that the initiative is part of the project’s broader objective to promote best practices in livestock management, improve animal health and increase productivity.

According to Mr. Adedipe, the demonstration pens will serve as training hubs where farmers will be exposed to modern techniques in feeding, housing, and disease control, noted that each pen is designed to accommodate various categories of livestock animals including Poultry,Pig, goats, and sheep will be equipped with essential facilities for animal welfare.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering local farmers with practical knowledge. By replicating these structures across the three senatorial zones—Ekiti North ( Ikole Ekiti), Ekiti Central( Erinfun Ado Ekiti) and Ekiti South ( Ikere Ekiti), we are ensuring equitable access to this support and facilitating learning at the grassroots,” he said.
The demonstration pens are being constructed in partnership with local communities and livestock associations to foster ownership and sustainability.
Mr. Adedipe also reiterated the L-PRES Project’s goal of building farmers’ resilience against shocks and improving their livelihoods through technology-driven interventions.
The project is expected to benefit hundreds of livestock farmers and ultimately contribute to food security and economic development in Ekiti State.
