
The Senate on Thursday confirmed Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Ekiti North) as the pioneer Chairman of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), marking a historic milestone in regional development.
The confirmation, which followed the adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on SWDC chaired by Sen. Yunus Akintunde (APC, Oyo Central), also saw Charles Akinola appointed as Managing Director, alongside 16 other board members and executive directors.

The Technical Advisor Local Government Project Monitoring and Evaluation, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the SWDC, describing it as a “game-changer for regional growth.”
In a statement, Adetunji praised the move, stating: “The SWDC will accelerate infrastructural development, boost inter-state collaboration, and enhance socio-economic prosperity across the South-West. This is a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to equitable progress.”

While congratulating the new SWDC Chairman, Engr. Adetunji urged him to rise to the occasion and ensure Ekiti and the entire South-West benefit maximally from this commission.
He also commended the Ekiti State Governor Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his transformative strides in infrastructure, education, and agriculture, urging continued synergy between the state and federal government.
With the board now fully constituted, the commission is expected to kickstart projects aimed at bridging developmental gaps in the South-West, including: Road and Transport Networks,Power and Water Supply Initiatives,Job Creation and Youth Empowerment,Agricultural and Industrial Development
