EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT RE-AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CULTURAL VALUES ,AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT

The Ekiti State Government has re-affirmed its commitment to promoting cultural values and re-orienting citizens towards their civic responsibilities, partnering with key stakeholders across the State.

EKITI STATE COMMISSIONER FOR AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY HON. EBENEZEER BOLUWADE WITH THE DIRECTOR GENERAL BUREAU OF CIVIC ORIENTATION AND CITIZENSHIP MRS OLAWUMI FAMUYIWA DURING THE VISIT

The Director-General, Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, Ekiti State (BCOC), Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Agriculture and food security.

Mrs Famuyiwa, underscored the importance of this initiative. The visit aimed to discuss collaborative efforts in sensitizing the populace about cultural values and norms, with a particular focus on the dignity of labour and fostering a proactive mindset among the youth.

The Director-General encouraged young people to engage in farming and to seize the opportunities presented by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in the agricultural sector. She emphasized the government’s dedication to instilling values of hard work and integrity among the youth, urging them to resist the allure of quick-money schemes, commonly known as “yahoo.” She stated that true success stems from hard work, which is essential for overcoming poverty.

In his response, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade expressed gratitude for the BCOC’s visit, highlighting its significance in fostering greater synergy between the two bodies. He emphasized that collaboration is vital for advancing agricultural initiatives and enhancing food security in the State.

The Commissioner detailed several recent achievements of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Notably, the provision of subsidized mechanization services at a 50% discount which has benefited over 1,000 farmers. Additionally, 1,535 hectares of arable land have been allocated to 66 farmers and investors across two farm settlements and five farm centers.

Furthermore, he highlighted the engagement of 913 youths in the “Bring-Back-The-Youth” initiative, in partnership with YSJ Limited, aimed at cultivating various crops in land clusters across the State. This initiative seeks to boost agricultural productivity and promote sustainable farming practices, ultimately enhancing food security for the people of Ekiti State.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue working together to promote agricultural development and civic responsibility, reinforcing the values that define Ekiti State as a beacon of integrity and hard work.
