The Director-General, Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC) Ekiti State, Mrs Olawumi Famuyiwa has extended heartfelt congratulations to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and the resilient people of Ekiti State as Nigeria commemorates June 12, Democracy Day.

She stated this in Ado Ekiti in her congratulatory message to Ekiti people and said the day served as a powerful reminder of the collective commitment to democratic ideals and the rule of law, essential for the progress and development of the nation.

Mrs.Famuyiwa noted that Democracy Day honoured the sacrifices made by countless Nigerians who fought for rights and freedoms, culminating in the historic June 12, 1993 elections.She emphasized that this pivotal moment symbolized the aspirations of the Nigerian people for a government that is accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of its citizens.
She observed that in Ekiti State, significant strides toward these ideals had been witnessed under the able leadership of Governor Oyebanji, who she said had prioritized good governance and civic engagement.
Mrs. Famuyiwa pointed out that the theme of this year’s celebration,”Unity in Diversity,”resonated deeply within Ekiti State, describing Ekiti as a melting pot of cultures, traditions, and ideas, stating that it was this diversity that strengthened the state’s democracy, stressing the need to strengthen an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and every citizen feels empowered to participate in the democratic process.
The Director General reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to promoting civic education and awareness, ensuring that citizens understand their rights and responsibilities.
She urged the need for reflection on Nigeria’s journey and the challenges ahead, calling for reaffirmed dedication to building a more equitable and just society,expressed confidence that together, under Governor Oyebanji’s guidance, the spirit of democracy could propel Ekiti State toward greater heights.
She concluded by wishing all Ekiti citizens a Happy Democracy Day.
