UPHOLD COMMUNICATION ETHOS- GOV.OYEBANJI CHARGES MEDIA PRACTITIONERS

The Ekiti State Governor,Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has charged media practitioners to uphold the ethos of communication, which include honesty, impartiality, truthfulness and decency.

Oyebanji gave the charge during the celebration of the 59th edition of the world’s communication day at St.Patrick Catholic Cathedral in Ado Ekiti.

The Governor who was represented by the Head of Service Dr Folakemi Olomojobi called on those whose professions are associated with communication and information management to remain the beacon,the bulwark and point of reference for reliable information in the present age of social media with its attendant positive and negative implications.
Speaking further, the Governor cautioned media practitioners not to succumb to pressure for financial gains which could lead to the temptation to peddle falsehood,engage in decietful propaganda or propagate divisive information,adding that the media space is a public trust which must not be polluted with harmful information and negative cultural influences.
Emphasizing the theme of the Pope’s message for this year world communication day celebration “share with gentleness the hope that is in your heart”he enjoined stakeholders to communicate with passion, gentleness, understanding, respect, sensitivity and dignity.
While appreciating the people who work in the information and communication industry for the task of gathering, processing and dissemination of information for their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to the ease of human interaction and connectivity,the Governor gave the assurances of the commitment of his administration to making life more abundant through the shared prosperity agenda,pledging the continued support for the church as she continues to call attention to the role of communication in the society.
” I will therefore continue to support the church as she continues to call attention to the role of communication in the society.The Governor used the opportunity to celebrate those whose professions are associated with communication and information management.He expressed deep appreciation for their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to the ease of human interaction and connectivity.
