Ekiti State Polytechnic Expands with 17 New Courses as Governor Oyebanji Boosts Agriculture

Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, has secured accreditation for 17 new academic programmes, significantly expanding its educational offerings.

The institution’s Rector, Dr. Sunday Osinkolu Ajeigbe, announced the development in an exclusive interview with JIROLTV on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti crediting Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration for its support in advancing technical and agricultural education.

Previously running only four National Diploma (ND) courses, the institution will now offer a total of 23 programmes—10 at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level and nine at the ND level.The new additions span across four schools,School of Agricultural Technology,

School of Business Studies,School of Applied Sciences and School of Engineering.

Dr. Ajeigbe highlighted that the expansion aligns with the institution’s original focus on agriculture while diversifying into critical fields such as computer science, electrical engineering, and agribusiness.

The Rector commended Governor Oyebanji for his administration’s investment in the polytechnic, citing increased subvention to accommodate the new minimum wage and ongoing infrastructure projects.

“The government has been instrumental in our growth,”Dr. Ajeigbe stated.”We have a state library nearing completion, electrification projects connecting us to the national grid, and perimeter fencing for enhanced security.”

As an institution initially established to advance agricultural education, the polytechnic has deepened its collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Agriculture. Initiatives include mechanized farming, cluster farming programmes, and partnerships with local communities to support farmers.

“We have the largest land allocation for cultivation among state institutions,”Dr. Ajeigbe noted.”Our focus remains on producing graduates who are not just job seekers but job creators, particularly in agribusiness.”

With the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) admissions process, the director assured prospective students and parents of the institution’s readiness to deliver quality education. He also emphasized improved security measures, including collaborations with local vigilantes and Amotekun, to ensure student safety.

“Ekiti State Polytechnic is poised to make a significant impact in Nigeria’s educational and agricultural sectors,”he declared. “With these new programmes, we are set to produce skilled graduates who will drive innovation and economic growth.”

The expansion marks a major milestone for the institution, reinforcing Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to education and agriculture as pillars of Ekiti’s development.
