EKITI GOVT. CHARGES WOMEN ON NEED TO DRIVE STATE’S ECONOMIC CREATION OF JOBS, FINANCIAL INCLUSION THROUGH LIVESTOCK SUB-SECTOR

The Ekiti State government has emphasized the crucial role women play in driving the state ‘ s economy, particularly through the livestock Sub-sector.

Speaking at the event in Ado Ekiti, the State Project Coordinator L-PRES Mr Olayinka Adedipe at one day sensitization programme for female livestock farmers in the State tagged “Promoting and Encouraging Women in the Livestock Sub-sector” through the World Bank initiative Programme highlighted the government effort to promote women’s participation in the livestock industry.

Mr Adedipe represented by the Extension Officer L-PRES,Mrs Olubunmi Ajayi said he government aims to create jobs and promote financial inclusion among women through the livestock Sub-sector,this initiative is part of the government broader strategy to diversify the State’s economy and reduce poverty.

He noted that women are key players in the livestock value chain and empowering them is essential to unlocking the sector full potential,the L-PRES project is working to improve livestock productivity, resilience and commercialization in selected value chain.

In her contribution, the Gender Based Violence Officer L-PRES,Mrs. Busola Adeniyi advocated for increased investment in the livestock Sub-sector.

Adeniyi stressed that investing in the livestock Sub-sector can have a significant impact on women’s economic empowerment and food security. Women are often responsible for managing livestock and producing dairy products but they may lack of access to resources, markets and training.

Also speaking at the event, the value chain Officer L-PRES,Mrs Adenike Omoleye addressed the gathering, shedding light on the importance of strengthening the livestock value chain to enhance women’s participation and benefits.

Omoleye emphasized that a robust value chain is crucial for increasing women’s access to markets, improving their productivity and ultimately boosting their income.

In her remarks, the Social Safeguard Officer L-PRES Mrs Aderonke Oke advised livestock farmers on health management, housing and shelter are necessary in keeping good animal Husbandry practices in order to get better results in production.

The Iyaloja Sheep and goats farmers in Ado Ekiti,Chief Mrs. Mary Adewole-Ojo appreciate the Ekiti State government and L-PRES for organized a day sensitization programme for female livestock farmers in the State.
