EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT,CORE VALUES

The Ekiti State Government has reiterated its dedication to restoring the core values of the State and fostering youth development. This commitment was emphasized by Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, the Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC), during a sensitization program held at Christ School, Ado Ekiti.

The program aimed to educate students about the moral and ethical principles of the Omoluabi Values, which are integral to Ekiti’s cultural heritage. Mrs. Famuyiwa underscored the importance of education as a vital tool for dismantling societal poverty, a mission that aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s focus on prioritizing education. She emphasized the need for youth to acquire both mental and physical skills to improve their lives.

During her address, Mrs. Famuyiwa highlighted essential cultural values, particularly the significance of respecting elders while discouraging reliance on others or engaging in the harmful “get rich quick” mentality.

The Governor’s Technical Advisor on Youth Inclusion Hon. Ayo Ojo also addressed the students, encouraging them to reject social vices that could hinder their success. He informed them about available grants aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship and urged interested individuals to contact his office for assistance.

Additionally, Mr. Samuel Abodunde, the Director of the Evaluation and Standard Department at the State Ministry of Education, represented the Commissioner for Education. He shared several achievements of Governor Oyebanji’s administration, including the timely renovation of dilapidated school buildings, the provision of free education in public schools, timely payment of teachers’ salaries, and the distribution of laboratory equipment to enhance science education. He urged students and teachers to reciprocate these efforts by being diligent and taking care of government properties within their environment.

The sensitization program also included visits to other secondary schools in Ado Ekiti, such as Christ Girls School, Herding Model College, and All Souls’ Anglican School, as part of the ongoing initiative to promote the Omoluabi Values among the youth.
