EKITI STUDENTS URGED TO EMBRACE “OMOLUABI” VALUES FOR STATE DEVELOPMENT

Students in Ekiti have been encouraged to adopt the “Omoluabi” ethos, which embodies integrity, respect, and hard work, as part of efforts to foster the growth and development of the State.

During a sensitization program held at Mary Immaculate Grammar School in Ado Ekiti, Hon. Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, the Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC), emphasized the importance of values orientation among students. This initiative is part of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s broader campaign to instill core values such as honesty, decency, and responsibility within the community.
Mrs. Famuyiwa lamented the decline of essential values like truthfulness and diligence among students and urged them to prioritize integrity in their endeavors. She cautioned against the allure of quick riches, often associated with activities like “Yahoo-Yahoo,” and encouraged the students to focus on constructive pursuits that contribute to their future success.
She highlighted the importance of respecting national symbols, stating that lack of respect leads to broader societal disrespect. To inspire the students, Mrs. Famuyiwa led them in reciting the poem “ISE LOOGUN ISE,” which translates to “hard work is the antidote to poverty,” adding an engaging element to the program.
Hon. Ayo Ojo, the Governor’s Technical Advisor on Youth Inclusion, also spoke to the students, urging them to avoid actions detrimental to their success. He announced the availability of grants to support youth entrepreneurship and encouraged interested students to reach out to his office.
Mr. Samuel Abodunde, Director of the Evaluation and Standard Department, State Ministry of Education who represented the Commissioner for Education, shared several accomplishments of Governor Oyebanji’s administration. These include timely payment of teachers’ salaries, renovation of dilapidated school buildings, provision of free education in public schools, and distribution of laboratory equipment to enhance science education. He urged the students and teachers to reciprocate these efforts by being diligent and maintaining the government’s investments in education.
The team later visited Mary Hill Boys High School, Ayo Fasanmi Model College, Ikingbinsin Olorunda Secondary School all in Ado Ekiti for the Sensitization Program.
