
Hon. Abiodun Omoleye, Ekiti House of Representative Member marked Valentine’s Day with a significant contribution to the Government Special School for the Deaf in Ikoro Ekiti. On Friday, he donated 150 beddings, pillows, slippers and a cash sum of 250,000 naira. The ceremony, held at the school’s dining hall, reflects the institution’s critical role in empowering children with disabilities and aligned with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s education reforms.

Principal Mrs. Adu Temitope Olaide expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its importance for the welfare of the pupils. She highlighted the school’s recent upgrades under the Oyebanji administration, including renovated facilities, a multisensory room, and specialized equipment for students with severe disabilities.

She commended the lawmaker for the gesture describing him as indeed a worthy representative who truly cares demonstrated and wished him success in office even as she called on others to join the train.

Hon. Omoleye encouraged Nigerians to embrace inclusivity, noting the abilities of individuals with disabilities. He commended the students’ achievements, including their participation in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and a choreography performance that showcased their talents. He praised the teachers for their dedication, highlighting that many staff members were alumni of special schools.
Reflecting on his history with the school, Hon. Omoleye recalled a visit in 2012 as a local Government Chairman when he paused council activities to celebrate the pupils with food, music, and uniforms. He emphasized his ongoing commitment to supporting the institution, explaining that the recent donation addressed urgent bedding shortages identified during a needs assessment.
Hon. Omoleye acknowledged the efforts of Governor Oyebanji’s administration in transforming the school into a model of excellence, with improvements in water access, sanitation, and infrastructure. The event concluded with a call to parents to recognize the potential of children with disabilities.
The donation coincided with a training and employment program for disabled persons facilitated by Hon. Omoleye in conjunction with the National Human Rights Commission, led by Mrs. Adenike Dosumu, who represented the Executive Secretary, Dr. Tony Ojukwu SAN.
The event featured remarks from notable figures, including former House of Representatives member Hon. Ropo Ige, Chairman Eso-Obe LCDA Hon. Kole Ayeni, and Hon. Adeyemo. They commended Hon. Omoleye for his unprecedented and commendable gesture, calling on others to follow suit.
The event closed with Hon. Omoleye reaffirming his commitment to inclusive development, urging continued collaboration to ensure the success of the children. The donation was celebrated as part of a broader effort to uplift and support individuals with disabilities.
