Engineer Bayo Ajayi, a prominent philanthropist, politician and board member Ekiti state environmental protection agency on Thursday donated 1,000 specially designed exercise books to support children with disabilities in Ekiti State. The event, held in Ado Ekiti, highlighted the importance of tailored resources for inclusive education and community development.

This is in fulfillment of his promise last year to compliment the Governor’s massive investment in developing the well-being of people living with disabilities in the state.

The donation, which was officially presented at the launch of the initiative, was praised for its thoughtfulness and alignment with the state government’s efforts to improve the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, described the gesture as “a testament to the care and specificity required when addressing the needs of these remarkable children.”

The customized exercise books were designed with the unique needs of children with disabilities in mind. Unlike standard notebooks, these books feature adjusted spacing, varying box sizes, and laminated covers for durability.

Engr. Ajayi’s donation is part of his broader commitment to supporting PWDs in Ekiti. He is also promised the Ekiti State Children’s Therapy Centre, a facility dedicated to providing specialized care for children with disabilities that he would make the support an annual thing.

In his speech, Engr. Ajayi expressed his pride in being part of the project. “I am proudly from Ekiti State,” he said. “Although I work outside the state, by God’s grace, I am back home to support and contribute to the development of our beloved state.”

He emphasized that nation-building goes beyond physical infrastructure. “It’s about investing in people, especially those who are often overlooked,” he said. He noted that they are not disabled rather uniquely gifted and capable of achieving great things.

Ajayi also praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his efforts in improving the lives of PWDs noting that he is a source of inspiration for all and it has inspired people like him to come home and ask, ‘What can we do to contribute?’”

He stressed that politics should be about giving, not just taking.stating that there is a difference between those who see politics as an opportunity to serve and those who see it as a means to gain.” “Personally, I strive to be an ocean—a source of life and support.”

He called on all citizens of Ekiti State to join hands in supporting the governor’s vision. “The governor and the president cannot do everything alone,” he said. “Together, we can achieve more.”

The donation of 1,000 exercise books is just the beginning. Engr. Ajayi pledged to support the initiative on an annual basis, ensuring that children with disabilities continue to receive the resources they need.

The event concluded with the formal presentation of the exercise books to the special school. Engr. Ajayi expressed hope that the books would aid the students in their learning and development.

Engr. Ajayi maintained that he believes in the leadership style of the Governor Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, and confident that with our collective efforts, his second term will be a resounding success.

The initiative has been widely applauded as a model of thoughtful philanthropy and community engagement. By addressing the specific needs of children with disabilities, Engr. Bayo Ajayi’s donation not only empowers these students but also reinforces the importance of inclusivity in education and nation-building.
