Bounded by his administration’s move to strengthen inclusive education, Ekiti State, in collaboration with Premium Trust Bank,the Ekiti state governor Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji through the office of the special adviser special education and social inclusion Mrs Adetoun Agboola has concluded a three-day capacity-building workshop aimed at improving teaching and supporting services for students with disabilities.
The program, held at the Government Special School for Persons with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities in Ido-Ekiti, ran from Monday to Wednesday brought together teachers, administrative staff, therapists, and other personnel from all special schools across the state.
Participants gained vital insights into interactive teaching strategies, role delegation, effective communication, and time management.
Spicing up the workshop resource persons from Lagos, including Educational Administrator Mr. Ogunmola Akinyemi and Mr.Gabriel Aigbokhaode Director Play Smart Concept shared knowledge on smart play-based techniques designed to engage children with disabilities in meaningful learning experiences.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Agboola Adetoun, emphasized the governor’s dedication to strengthening an inclusive learning environment. “This initiative is part of the governor’s unwavering commitment to equipping educators with the skills and tools needed to support students with disabilities effectively,” she stated.
The program’s goal is to enhance participants’ expertise in utilizing specialized materials and equipment to improve both learning outcomes and quality of life for students with disabilities.
Delivering goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Education Dr.Adebimpe Aderiye, represented by Mr. Bayo and senior special assistants to the governor—Mrs. Fatoba Olabisi Funmilayo (Rehabilitation & Mental Health) and Mr. Fatai Sulaiman (Special Inclusion)—applauded the initiative. They lauded Mrs. Agboola Adetoun for her relentless efforts to improve the welfare of individuals with disabilities.
The dignitaries at the training urged participants to apply their newly acquired skills to create a more inclusive and effective educational environment. “Your role is critical in transforming lives,” they emphasized, “and this training equips you to make a lasting impact.”
In separate interviews with jiroltv , participants hail the move describing it as apt inorder to justify government’s massive investment in the care of people with disabilities assuring the governor that the skills acquired will be applied accordingly.
They also seized the moment to commend the governor on the payment of the minimum wage which has shown the governor as truely committed to their well-being with prayers for his success on their lips.
Ekiti State continues to set a benchmark for inclusive education, demonstrating that prioritizing the welfare of individuals with disabilities is integral to achieving social progress.
