Ekiti State to Launch 40 New Community Projects in 2025
... Commissioner Awe Unveils New Project Selection Method
Ekiti State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Hon. Oluwafemi Awe (FEMTEX), announced on Wednesday that 40 new community projects have been picked and recommended for implementation starting in 2025. This announcement was made during an interactive session with community leaders, secretaries, and vendors handling various self-help projects across the state for the payment of the last traunch and announce the new method. The projects are awaiting approval from Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in line with his administration’s commitment to prosperity for all.
Hon. Awe introduced a new method of project selection and disbursement, which has been accepted by the governor. This method aims to eliminate the piecemeal system of funding, which has slowed development due to fluctuating building material prices. Instead, communities will submit their project proposals, and ministry engineers will collaborate with local vendors to ensure prompt and specification-compliant delivery.
The commissioner also announced the approval of 50 additional borehole constructions within rural communities. This decision follows the positive feedback from previous borehole projects and emphasized the administration’s commitment to improving the health and prosperity of the people.
With the final tranche of self-help community projects completed during the tenure of former Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the stage is set to begin a new phase of development. Hon. Awe assured that once approved, the new projects would commence immediately in January 2025. He emphasized that the ministry’s monitoring team would conduct unannounced site visits to ensure quality project delivery.
The commissioner listed various community projects, including the construction of drainages, culverts, hand-dug wells, solar wells, and the opening up of farmsteads. These projects aim to enhance business, health, and food security initiatives in the state.
Beneficiaries of the projects commended Governor Oyebanji’s generosity and genuine care for the people’s welfare. In separate interviews, they pledged their support for his second-term bid in 2026, citing the positive impact of his administration’s initiatives on their communities. They prayed for his continued good health and success.
