Ekiti Unveils Bold Vision with State Capital Territory 2025-2050 Master Plan
... As Committee Recommends 5km Focus, Extended Version
The Ekiti State Government, led by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji through the State Capital Development Authority (SCDA) led by Hon.Tade Aluko as Special Adviser, is spearheading the 2025-2050 Ekiti Capital City Development Plan.
The master plan outlines a phased approach to developing Ado Ekiti and its surrounding areas. Initially focusing on a 5km radius, it will expand to 10km and beyond, pending legislative approval. The plan includes detailed boundary definitions to prevent land disputes and ensure structured growth.
The plan targets Ado Ekiti as the capital city, with specified boundary points across five axes:
Ikere Axis: 5km at Fagbohun, 10km at Baptist Comprehensive High School.
Ilawe Axis: 5km at Idisin, 10km at Odo.
Ijan Axis: 5km at Erinfun, 10km at Ado-Ijan boundaries.
Afao Axis: 5km at Iwaro, 10km at Uso.
Iyin Axis: 5km at Iyin-Ado, 10km at Iyin-Igede boundaries.
The recommendations from the committee will be submitted to Governor Oyebanji in the coming weeks, paving the way for implementation.
The plan aims to position Ekiti State as a leader in urban planning by creating an investment-friendly, modern capital city. The updated project title, “Ekiti State Capital City Development Plan,” reflects an inclusive approach, addressing revenue and land boundary concerns while ensuring collaborative development.
The SCDA’s technical sub-committee is collaborating with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, local councils, and UN-Habitat, to provide technical assistance in urban expansion, satellite imagery, and waste management. A state-of-the-art base map is also being developed to guide decisions on land use and sustainable growth.
During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, participants recommended outright land acquisition for the State Capital Territory as the jurisdiction would be detailed by the Master Plan and emphasized collaboration between state authorities and local communities. The project is expected to address current and future development needs, ensuring Ekiti’s role as a pacesetter in sustainable governance.
With its comprehensive approach, the State Capital Territory 2025-2050 Master Plan is poised to transform Ado Ekiti into a hub of economic opportunities and urban innovation, reaffirming Ekiti State’s commitment to progressive development.
The steering Committee for setting up of the State Capital Territory Development Authority is SA/DG OTSD Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo while the technical committee was chaired by Hon Tade Aluko and co-chaired by Rt. Hon Karonwi Oladapo, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.
