Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday presented a 2025 budget proposal of N375.8 billion, placing high priority on food security, job creation, and economic growth. Unveiling the ambitious plan before the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Oyebanji emphasized that the budget aligns with global best practices and supports his administration’s “Shared Prosperity” agenda.
The presentation, held at the Assembly Complex in Ado-Ekiti, drew applause from legislators led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, who commended Oyebanji for navigating the 2024 fiscal year without any internal or external borrowing, a feat marked by effective budget management.
The 2025 budget earmarks N192.3 billion (51%) for recurrent expenses, covering personnel, overheads, and debt servicing, while N183.5 billion (49%) is dedicated to capital projects, notably in infrastructure. This increase follows the 2024 budget of N150.6 billion, signaling a substantial boost in both developmental and operational funding.
Highlighting Ekiti’s focus on sustainable growth, Oyebanji underscored the importance of bolstering the agriculture sector, supporting small businesses, and ensuring that ongoing infrastructure projects across the state reach completion. He noted that the budget was crafted with input from communities, gathered during town hall meetings across Ekiti’s senatorial districts, in line with his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
“This 2025 budget is a blueprint for securing food, creating wealth, and fostering a prosperous environment for our people,” Oyebanji stated, adding that provisions are included for a new minimum wage and pivotal road, water, and sanitation projects. He emphasized his government’s mission to equip residents with essential skills, attract investment, and position Ekiti as a thriving economic hub.
Speaker Aribasoye urged Assembly members to prioritize their legislative duties over personal engagements, calling for a comprehensive review of the budget to reflect the needs of the Ekiti people. He challenged lawmakers to scrutinize the proposal rigorously, ensuring accountability and public trust are upheld.
Dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, Head of Service Dr. Folake Olomojobi, traditional rulers, and former Assembly members, with the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, leading the royal delegation.
