The Agbeyewa Cup Tournament concluded with a thrilling final match on October 29, as Omuo-Ore High School defeated Government College, Ado Ekiti, claiming the title and a grand prize of N1 million at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti. Organized by the Agbeyewa Foundation, the championship highlights the foundation’s dedication to nurturing young sports talent across Ekiti State.

Spectators included high-profile dignitaries such as Hon. Idowu Odebunmi, Chairman of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor on Sports to the Governor, and top officials from the Ekiti Sports Commission and Ministry of Education. Royal fathers and community leaders also graced the event, emphasizing the support for youth-focused initiatives in Ekiti State.

The closely contested final saw Omuo-Ore High School score the lone winning goal, securing their victory.

The runners-up, Government College, Ado Ekiti, received N500,000 and silver medals, while Ifaki Grammar School, which clinched third place, earned N250,000 and bronze medals.

Dignitaries took turns to present awards and cheques, commending Agbeyewa Foundation for its commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment. Alhaji Dauda Lawal, Agbeyewa Foundation’s Director of Community Engagement, praised the tournament’s success, promising even greater support for future editions.

The 2024 Agbeyewa Secondary Schools Football Championship, involving over 150 schools, showcased not only impressive athleticism but also vibrant community spirit, as described by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). With grand decorations, customized gear, and generous prizes, this year’s finale highlighted the importance of combining sports and education for Ekiti’s next generation.
