Ilumoba Ekiti Celebrates as Governor Oyebanji Restores Power After 14 Years of Darkness
... Governor Hailed"Man Of Light" As Residents Welcome 500KVA Transformer
Ilumoba Ekiti erupted into jubilant celebrations on Thursday with the arrival of a 500kVA Aston transformer, provided by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji through the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Hon. Oluwafemi Abimbola Awe (FEMTEX). Despite the rain and nightfall, the entire community took to the streets in a carnival-like atmosphere, rejoicing over the restoration of power after 14 years of darkness.
The newly installed transformer has brought hope to a town that had long suffered from a lack of electricity, affecting businesses and daily life.
Residents expressed their profound gratitude to Governor Oyebanji, whom they described as a “man of light” and a committed leader dedicated to the development of all parts of the state. The monarch of the community, HRM Oba Jimoh Oluwagbemiga spoke passionately about the governor’s intervention, emphasizing that the new transformer has brought a much-needed solution to a longstanding problem.
“For the past 14 years, Ilumoba Ekiti has struggled with darkness, which has crippled business activities and stifled development,” Oba Oluwagbemiga said. “Governor Oyebcanji has shown himself to be a true leader who understands the needs of his people and acts decisively to address them.”
He also noted that the recent reconnection of the town to the national grid did not initially restore power to all sections of the community. However, after a request was made to the governor by the monarch and other community leaders, the governor promptly approved the transformer.
The monarch who corroborated the opinions of high chiefs Opeyemi Ademuwagun and Anthony jonise assured the governor of the town’s unwavering support for his second-term bid, stating that the entire community stands firmly behind his leadership.
The combination of the APC Ward Chairman and youth leader in Ilumoba,Hon.Idowu Afuye and Mr.Adewale Olokunlade “Dealer” expressed delight at the arrival of the transformer, describing it as a “renewed hope” for the community. He explained that restoring power would revitalize the local economy, improve social life, and encourage evening activities. “The return of electricity will revive businesses and boost nightlife,” he said, pledging the youth’s full support for the governor’s administration and second-term ambition.
The APC Women Leader Mrs.Dahunsi in the community was visibly overjoyed, praising the governor for alleviating the burden on local women, most of whom are petty traders. She noted that the restoration of electricity would reduce the high costs associated with petrol for generators, allowing the women to reinvest their savings into their businesses. She also extended gratitude to the governor for appointing their son, Hon. Oluwafemi Abimbola Awe, as a commissioner, describing him as a “loyal and dependable” representative of the community.
Speaking to JIROLTV, Commissioner Hon. Oluwafemi Abimbola Awe expressed appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for his hands-on approach to governance. “Governor Oyebanji is a leader who doesn’t just make promises; he delivers tangible projects that positively impact people’s lives,” Awe said. He recounted how the request for the transformer was prioritized when a delegation led by the monarch visited his office. The governor’s swift approval, he added, demonstrated his deep connection to grassroots communities and his commitment to development.
The arrival of the transformer is part of a larger electrification initiative by the Oyebanji administration. Recently, the governor commissioned the distribution of 16 Aston 500kVA transformers across 16 different communities in Ekiti State, as part of his efforts to electrify underserved areas and stimulate socio-economic growth. This electrification drive aims to attract investors, improve living conditions, and fulfill his “prosperity for all” agenda. Additionally, the governor recently inaugurated a 33kVA electricity project in Ikole Ekiti to further boost the state’s power infrastructure.
The commissioner emphasized Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s commitment to fulfilling his promises, citing various acts of support for the family of the late All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Barr. Paul Omotosho. He highlighted the governor’s efforts in covering the children’s school fees and appointing some family members to positions and placing his wife on salary so that she can take care of the children and herself, demonstrating continued care nearly a year after Omotosho’s passing. The commissioner also noted the governor’s dedication to keeping his promises to the Imesi Ekiti community, ensuring that local self-help projects are prioritized alongside other significant initiatives aimed at improving the community’s well-being and economy.
Hon. Oluwafemi Awe took the opportunity to reaffirm support for the governor’s second-term bid, urging others to do the same. He asserted that there should be no internal opposition within the party in the 2026 election, emphasizing that the significant achievements made in the past two years indicate that Ekiti is on the path to reaching its aspirations over the next six years.
As Ilumoba Ekiti basks in the glow of restored electricity, the town’s residents reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Oyebanji, vowing to support him as he seeks to extend his developmental strides. The celebration over the newly installed transformer symbolizes more than just light; it represents a rekindling of hope, economic rejuvenation, and a community rallying around a governor who has demonstrated his commitment to lasting progress.
The lights are back on in Ilumoba Ekiti, and with Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji at the helm, the future shines brighter for the entire state.
