The last four teams in the second edition of the Agbeyewa Secondary schools Football Championship will square up against one another today at different venues as the teeming football enthusiasts in Ekiti State eagerly await the two teams that will book the tickets for the grand finale.
In one of the semi final matches billed for today, Thursday October 24, Omuo-Ore Comprehensive High School, Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti East Local government will slug it out with Iludun Community High School in Ilejemeje Local government.
The match will be decided at St. Augustine High School, Oye Ekiti by 3pm .
The second semi final match scheduled to hold at Baptist Comprehensive High School,Igede Ekiti at about same time will feature Doherty Memorial Grammar School, Ijero Ekiti and Government College, Ado Ekiti.
The four teams scaled through the quarter final hurdles after winning their various matches .
Secondary Schools from all local government areas in Ekiti State started the second edition of the prestigious Agbeyewa Secondary schools Football Championship but many of them could not make it to the semi finals after losing out at different stages.
The winners of today’s matches will qualify for the final while the losers will play that third place match.
According to the Director of Community Communications of Agbeyewa Foundation, Alhaji Dauda Lawal (ADL), the two matches are billed to be played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday next week October 29.
As it was done last year, winners of the this year’s tournament will go home with the sum of One Million Naira as price money while the runners up will smile home with #500k and and the second runners up will grab the sum of #250k just as there are several individual awards and prizes for outstanding secondary school players.
The Agbeyewa Secondary Schools Football Championship is a replica of the defunct Principals Cup as organizers are expectant that raw football talents will be discovered from the grassroots across the State to build a career combined with academics for themselves.
The Agbeyewa Foundation being the organizers also hopes the cash rewards for the outstanding teams and other incentives given to the participating teams will facilitate improved Sports development in various secondary schools.
