NHCF CHAIR AND EKITI STATE COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DR OYEBANJI FILANI

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Chairman of the NHCF and Ekiti State’s Health Commissioner, stated that the campaign, endorsed by the Nigeria Governors Forum, will run from October 28 to November 3, 2024. He explained that health commissioners from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are leading the initiative, which seeks to screen 10 million Nigerians for these conditions. Filani noted that non-communicable diseases account for roughly 27% of annual deaths in Nigeria, with a 17% probability of individuals aged 30 to 70 succumbing to these conditions, highlighting the need for urgent intervention.

The commissioner added that the campaign would prioritize underserved communities to ensure equitable access to care, allowing citizens to visit public health providers and outreach sites for screenings.

The effort according to the commissioner aligns with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and a Sector-Wide Approach compact signed with the President, aiming to improve health outcomes nationwide.

Filani further mentioned that the campaign will provide immediate counseling and referrals for those with sub-optimal results, link newly detected cases to treatment facilities, and gather data on NCD prevalence to support future health policies.

He further gave out a number to call for more information belong to Prof. Ehimaro Igumbor on 09035913807
