OLD PERSONS DAY:EKSG SINCERELY COMMITMENT TO WELL-BEING-BABAFEMI

The Ekiti State Government has said that it would continue prioritize the welfare of elderly citizens as well as recognize and celebrate their past contribution to the development of the State and the nation .

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Peju Babafemi in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti

paid tribute to the elderly and appreciated their wisdom , intellectual strength and input to the development of the State and the Nation.

Babafemi while conveying the unwavering dedication of Governor Oyebanji to the welfare of older citizens, remarked that his love , care and respect for them is evident.

She said the Governor had approved a day in the month of October for the State Government to celebrate the elderly.

According to the Commissioner,the theme for this year’s Older Persons Day is “Aging with Dignity” and the Federal Government usually sets aside the *5th of October annually to commemorate the Day*

Babafemi remarked that this year’s theme complements the shared prosperity mantra of Governor Abayomi Oyebanji administration’s effort at ensuring dignity for Ekiti Older Persons through easy access to quality health care across our communities, regular payment of pensions , payment of the backlog of gratuity and frequent engagements of Government with the Older Persons among others.

The day, she noted, would stand as a reminder of the sacrifices and contributions of the senior citizens to peace, progress and growth in the society.

The Commissioner emphasized that the State Government remains committed to recognising their contributions and ensuring their well-being.

She said the provision of good roads, health and social infrastructure at the grassroots is aimed at the socio-economic development of the State as well as the comfort, well-being and safety of the citizens including our senior citizens.

Babafemi acknowledged the untiring care of the First Lady, Her Excellency Dr Olayemi Oyebanji for the elderly persons and widows.

The Commissioner commended the well-meaning individuals and organizations that are supporting the care for the elderly, stressing the need for all stakeholders in honouring and caring for the elderly.

Today, we acknowledge the unique roles of our elders in nation building and we owe them a debt of gratitude,” Babafemi added.
