Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has distributed a total of N47.8 million to top-performing teachers during this year’s Teachers’ Day celebrations in Ado-Ekiti.
The Governor also issued a stern warning against examination malpractice, promising to protect the integrity of the state’s educational system.
At the event, which took place at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Mrs. Modupe Folayemi and Mr. Odunayo Oriloye received N6 million each as the best primary and secondary school teachers. Other winners included four teachers who were awarded N1.5 million each, with 26 teachers receiving consolation prizes of N200,000 each.
The celebration turned into a lively carnival, with teachers dressed in colorful Aso Ebi attire praising the Governor for his “teacher-friendly” policies. In a show of gratitude, the Ekiti chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) threw its weight behind Governor Oyebanji’s re-election in 2026, citing his positive impact on the education sector.
Governor Oyebanji, represented by Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, emphasized his administration’s commitment to education, including timely payment of salaries and provision of housing and vehicle loans for teachers. However, he took a firm stance against examination malpractices, warning school officials that any involvement in such unethical practices would not be tolerated.
“Ekiti has a proud reputation for scholarship and integrity. We will not allow any malpractice to tarnish this legacy,” Oyebanji declared. He also highlighted his administration’s efforts to train teachers and improve facilities, including the refurbishment of public schools under a World Bank-supported initiative.
With the Governor’s education reforms in full swing, Ekiti teachers continue to rally behind his leadership, calling for policies that ensure long-term job security and career progression within the sector.
