People With Disabilities (PWD) in Ekiti State have rallied behind Governor Biodun Oyebanji, endorsing his bid for a second term. This significant endorsement came from various associations under the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) during a gathering at Lady Jibowu Hall, Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti.
Cluster heads of JONAPWD extolled Governor Oyebanji’s impactful policies on the lives of people with disabilities. Mr. Bakinde Olaosebikan, Chairman of the National Association of Persons With Physical Disabilities, highlighted the unanimous decision of the PWD community, praising Oyebanji’s commitment to their welfare and expressing hope for increased appointments of PWD members.
“Governor Oyebanji has delivered. He has transformed our lives and changed the narrative about people with disabilities. That is why we are endorsing him and presenting him with a flag and an award as the most accessible governor in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large,” stated Olaosebikan, who also leads PWDs in Politics.
Mr. Sesan Aina, Vice Chairman of JONAPWD, acknowledged the governor’s efforts in refurbishing special schools and fostering a unique affinity with PWDs. Leaders from various disability associations, including Mr. Olajide Olatunbosun of the Association of the Blind, Mr. Olaoluwa Fagbemi of the Albino Association, and Mr. Isaac Williams of the Deaf Association, praised Oyebanji’s inclusive policies, free health services, and palliative measures.
In response, Governor Oyebanji, through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe, expressed gratitude for the endorsement and urged the PWD community to maintain unity. He assured continued prioritization of their welfare, emphasizing the mutual benefits of their support.
Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, and Hon. Toyin Ojo, Executive Chairman of Ado Ekiti Central Local Council Development Area, also lauded the PWD community’s endorsement, reiterating the government’s dedication to their welfare.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Pastor Abimbola Akinola, Mr. Gbenga Obanise, and Alhaji Fatai Sulaimon, reinforcing the collective commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in Ekiti State.
