Ekiti Fashion Entrepreneur, Owajoba Busayo Empowers Youth through Fashion,Innovation
In an exclusive interview with Owajoba Oluwabusayo, Founder of De Elegant Expertise Palais (DEEP) and Organizer of the Annual Ekiti Fashion Exhibition(EFE), the visionary entrepreneur shares insights into her journey and the impact of her initiatives on the local fashion scene.
Established in 2016 and commissioned by Aare Afe Babalola, DEEP represents a pinnacle of fashion expertise, pioneering trends and self-discovery through fashion. Despite challenges, including staffing and acceptance of new ideas, Owajoba remains dedicated to excellence.
Reflecting on the inception of the Ekiti Fashion Exhibition (EFE) in 2017, Owajoba emphasizes its role in revitalizing fashion in Ekiti State and bridging the gap with fashion-forward cities like Lagos and Ibadan. EFE promotes local talent and empowers unemployed youths by providing opportunities for skill acquisition.
Owajoba’s journey into the fashion world began with a pivotal event in 2015, sparking her interest and leading to self-improvement through training programs. This journey laid the foundation for DEEP, where she strives to serve diverse clientele and foster talent discovery.
At DEEP, African fabrics play a central role in promoting cultural diversity and heritage, showcased through bespoke designs that embrace different styles and preferences. Inclusivity is paramount, with skill acquisition programs designed to empower individuals from all backgrounds.
The Ekiti Young Fashionpreneur Contest (EYFC), initiated in 2021, addresses the challenges faced by emerging entrepreneurs by providing financial support, mentorship, and networking opportunities. This holistic approach stimulates economic growth and innovation in the local fashion industry.
Looking ahead, Owajoba envisions DEEP expanding internationally, continuing to empower individuals and become a beacon of opportunity in Nigeria’s fashion landscape.
As initiatives like EFE and EYFC continue to nurture talent and drive economic development, Owajoba remains committed to her vision of a vibrant and inclusive fashion industry in Ekiti State.
By investing in the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs, she believes we can create a more sustainable and prosperous future for the industry as a whole.
