In a bid to enhance economic ties and explore potential collaborations, the Ekiti State government recently convened an engagement session between the delegation of the Chinese Consul General and various stakeholders from the state’s chambers of commerce, industry, mines, agriculture, and the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) industry.
Championing the initiative, Mrs. Tola Adeola, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, emphasized the significance of forging robust partnerships with business communities to bolster the state’s economic viability and discourage capital flight through viable empowerment and skill acquisition programs.
Highlighting the efficient human and natural resources in the state, Adeola stressed Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration’s commitment to human-oriented initiatives.
The Chinese Consul General, Ms. Yan Yuquing lauded successful projects like the Ekiti Agro Airport as models of mutually beneficial cooperation, expressing China’s potential to contribute to Africa’s development through strategic partnerships and exchange programs. She extended a warm invitation for an Ekiti delegation to explore further opportunities in China.
During the session, the Chinese Consul reiterated China’s openness to Nigerian businesses and eagerness to collaborate with entrepreneurs in Ekiti State.
Entrepreneurs voiced aspirations for a more localized approach to Chinese investment, advocating for mechanisms enabling local producers to purchase machinery through installment plans. They also proposed initiatives to enhance intra-state trade, ensuring capital circulation within Ekiti State to boost the local economy.
Facilitated by the Ekiti State government through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, the engagement session served as a platform for robust discussions and innovative ideas aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships and driving economic growth in the state.
The session culminated in an exhibition where the Chinese delegation and state entrepreneurs exchanged contacts and ideas for personal development.
As both parties continue exploring avenues for collaboration, optimism abounds for sustainable economic ventures benefiting Ekiti State and its people.
