GoldHeart Foundation Trains 20 NGOs in Tackling Gender-Based Violence
In a proactive effort to combat gender-based violence (GBV), the GoldHeart Foundation convened a two-day Guardianship and Leadership Training, supported by the Bet9ja Foundation.
The event held concurrently in Ekiti and Kaduna State in collaboration with the Omonola Blessing Foundation, this impactful training aimed to equip participants with the necessary tools to address GBV effectively.
Renowned expert Ms. Omotunde Blessing Tolulope held a session titled “Introduction to ending violence against women and girls,” with a specific focus on online GBV. Providing a comprehensive understanding of GBV,Ms Tolulope shed light on the various digital threats faced by women and girls, imparting invaluable insights to attendees.
Under the guidance of the Goldheart Foundation Executive Director Ms. Moyinoluwa, participants delved into image-based sexual abuse and digital safety. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding personal information and staying vigilant online, Moyinoluwa equipped participants with practical strategies to counter digital harm effectively.
The training received a boost from the presence of the Executive Director of Disability Not A Barrier Initiative, who championed inclusivity and solidarity with the organizing foundations. His impassioned speech inspired attendees to advocate for a society that respects the rights of every individual, strengthening a sense of unity and purpose among participants.
Sharing her personal experiences, visually impaired Ms. Ayobami Familua shed light on the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities. Stressing the importance of using appropriate terminology when addressing individuals with disabilities, Ayobami’s insights encouraged participants to create a more inclusive and accessible environment.
Reflecting on the training,one of the participants ,Ms. Rebecca Obapetu from Happy Zone Initiative expressed gratitude for the expanded understanding of GBV and digital safety. Committed to sharing the newfound knowledge with her organization, Rebecca highlighted the invaluable impact of the training on their work with teenagers.
Ms. Moyinoluwa Ogundowole, Executive Director of the GoldHeart Foundation, emphasized the importance of empowering young women and emerging NGOs in combating GBV.
Throughout the training she charged the foundation to remain dedicated to nurturing social innovators who can drive positive change in their communities.
