In a bid to promote effective civic orientation and citizenship in the transportation sector of Ekiti State, the Director-General of the Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship (BCOC) Ekiti State Mrs.Olawunmi Famuyiwa, paid an advocacy visit to Mr. Kehinde Ajobiewe, the Commissioner for Transportation. The visit took place at the Commissioner’s office in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
The purpose of the visit was to foster collaboration between the BCOC and the Ministry of Transportation in implementing initiatives that would enhance transportation services and promote responsible citizenship among commuters and transport operators.
During the meeting, the Director-General of the BCOC, whose primary focus is on promoting civic education and orientation, emphasized the need for a well-regulated and citizen-centric transportation system in Ekiti State. She highlighted the importance of raising awareness about road safety, adherence to traffic rules, and the rights and responsibilities of both commuters and transport operators.
Mrs. Olawumi Famuyiwa, the Director-General of the BCOC, stated, “Transportation plays a vital role in the daily lives of our citizens. It is crucial that we work together to ensure a safe, efficient, and citizen-oriented transportation system that meets the needs of the people and contributes to the overall development of our State.”
Mr. Kehinde Ajobiewe, the Commissioner for Transportation, welcomed the Director-General’s visit and expressed his willingness to collaborate with the BCOC. He acknowledged the importance of integrating civic education into transportation services, particularly in promoting responsible behavior and ensuring the safety and comfort of commuters.
“The Ministry of Transportation is committed to improving transportation services and ensuring the well-being of our citizens,” Mr. Ajobiewe stated. “By partnering with the BCOC, we can develop programs and initiatives that educate both transport operators and commuters on their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of fostering a culture of responsible citizenship in the transportation sector.”
Both parties agreed to establish a joint committee comprising representatives from the BCOC and the Ministry of Transportation. The committee will be responsible for formulating actionable plans and implementing initiatives that address the identified areas of collaboration.
The collaborative efforts between the BCOC and the Ministry of Transportation aim to promote road safety, enhance the quality of transportation services, and instill a sense of responsibility and citizenship among all stakeholders in the sector. Through public awareness campaigns, educational programs, and stakeholder engagement, the partnership seeks to create a transportation system that prioritizes the well-being and satisfaction of commuters while ensuring compliance with regulations.
