EKITI STATE COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH, DR. FILANI CALLS FOR CALM AMID CRISIS

In a recent press statement by the commissioner Dr.Oyebanji Filani in the Ministry of Health and Human Services addressed the concerning incidents at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

According to the him, swift action has been taken in response to assaults on doctors and healthcare workers, with suspects apprehended and charged. Additionally, measures to enhance security within the hospital premises have been implemented.

He stated that the Ministry acknowledged the challenges faced by patients seeking healthcare services at EKSUTH and assured the public that they are actively investigating these issues to improve service delivery.

In light of recent events, the Ministry directed the EKSUTH board to establish a 10-member review panel, chaired by Dr. Femi Thomas and Dr. Sunkanmi Alabi. The panel’s mandate includes investigating health workers’ attitudes and proposing measures to enhance care quality at the Accident & Emergency Department.

The interim report of the panel is expected within 72 hours, with a comprehensive report due within 2 weeks. Furthermore, the Ministry announced plans for a comprehensive capacity-building program for staff to ensure optimal service delivery and a safer work environment.

Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, expressed appreciation for the support of all stakeholders as they strive to uphold the highest standards of healthcare delivery in Ekiti State.
