Ekiti State government is gearing up for a major overhaul of its waste management system with plans to distribute Dino bins and the recruitment of 110 sanitary inspection officers, signaling a proactive approach to environmental sustainability.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is spearheading these initiatives to address waste disposal challenges and ensure a cleaner environment for residents.
The state on Tuesday held an interactive and sensitization meeting involving key stakeholders, organized by the Office of the Director-General of Community Communications led by Mrs. Mary Oso Omotoso in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources under Hon. Tosin Aluko, and the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKS-WAMA) headed by DG Hon.Sunkanmi Onipede.The interactive session featured market women leaders, local government and LCDAs chairmen, Fayose market executives, residents and others where they gave insight into how the dino bins would be distributed.
The meeting emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving effective waste management strategies.
As part of the state’s waste management overhaul, plans are underway to distribute Dino bins to strategic locations where indiscriminate dumping of refuse is prevalent.
The director general of EKS-WAMA Hon.Sunkanmi Onipede explained that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has procured two Dino bins carriers, with three more expected to be added to make a total of five before the end of the year. This investment emphasized the government’s commitment to improving waste disposal practices and environmental cleanliness.
The commissioner for environment and natural resources Hon.Tosin Aluko explained that In addition to the distribution of Dino bins, the state government has regularized the employment of 110 sanitary inspection officers. She explained that the officers will play a crucial role in enforcing waste management regulations, conducting sanitary inspections, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards across the state. The recruitment drive aims to strengthen enforcement measures and enhance the effectiveness of waste management initiatives.
She also stressed that enforcement this time would be stiffer urging residents and stakeholders to gear up to that the governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s massive investment in the sector would be achieved.
While the director general community communications Mrs Mary Oso Omotoso maintained that Governor Oyebanji’s proactive approach to waste management, coupled with the planned distribution of Dino bins and recruitment of sanitary inspection officers, reflects the government’s commitment to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for the people of Ekiti State.
She urged residents to support government by being waste responsible explaining that an healthier and clean Ekiti is a collective responsibility where everyone plays his part.
She stressed that her office in collaboration with others will continue the advocacy till the aim of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji is achieved .
