NUJ State Information chapel Elects new Executive Members

...as Obelewaji Emerges Chairman

Members of the State Information chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ekiti State on Wednesday elected new set of leaders for the chapel.

At the election, the former Secretary of the chapel, Comrade Wale Obelewaji was elected as chairman of the chapel.

Obelewaji polled 39 votes to defeat the former Vice Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Abimbola Odubola who scored 18 votes.

Comrades Sade Ogunrinlade, Olukunle Oyeniyi, and Yinka Babalogbon were returned unopposed as Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and assured that he would ensure their welfare at all times.

Obelewaji who solicited the support of members of the chapel said his administration would take a number of steps to “rebuild and repair” the chapel.

He called on Odubola to join him in the quest to move the chapel to a more enviable height.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi commended the chapel members for a peaceful conduct of the election.

Babatuyi who was represented by the State chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Fatimah Bello urged the new Executive to work together for the benefit of the chapel members.

He equally urged members of the chapel to cooperate with the new leadership to build a more virile chapel.

The chairman commended the electoral committee for conducting a free, fair and transparent election.
