Chief Ojo Adedayo, the Chairman of Kajola Local Council Development Area, led dignitaries in a poignant wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph of the unknown soldier in Ijesa-Isu-Ekiti. The event paid homage to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
Chairman Adedayo, known as Abass, called on the government and compassionate individuals to prioritize the welfare of the families left behind by the valiant soldiers. This plea was made during the first-of-its-kind ceremony in the LCDA, marking the culmination of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration on January 15.
The ceremony, dedicated to acknowledging the role of both surviving and fallen military personnel, commenced with the Chairman inspecting the guard of honor. It featured a parade by members of the Nigerian Legion, joined by corps members, followed by the solemn laying of wreaths.
Prominent figures, including former Deputy Governor Chief Paul Alabi, Legion Chairman Col. Olorunda Adeyanju (Rtd), and the Ikole District Police Officer, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony alongside Chairman Adedayo.
Describing the ceremony as historic, Chief Adedayo emphasized the need for enhanced security in the country. He urged Nigerians to appreciate the unity achieved through the sacrifices of the fallen heroes and called on the Armed Forces to confront the challenges of insecurity.
Colonel Olorunda Adeyanju (Rtd), Chairman of the Legion in the LCDA, appealed for increased welfare packages for ex-service men, recognizing their continued dedication to the nation.
As part of the ceremony, Chief Adedayo swore in Mr. Osho Adeyanju as the newly appointed secretary of the LCDA, urging him to discharge his duties with diligence.
In response, Mr. Adeyanju expressed gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the honor bestowed upon him, pledging to justify the confidence placed in him.
The ceremony was attended by the Obanla of Ijesa-Isu Ekiti, Oba Osho Adeniyi, former Deputy Governor Chief Paul Alabi, and the LCDA leadership.
