Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has emphasized the pivotal role of local government in his administration’s development strategy during the inauguration of newly elected chairmen for local government and local council development areas in the state. Stressing the need for passionate attention to the rural areas, the governor, represented by his Deputy Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye, emphasized the urgency for effective governance at the grassroots level.
In a stern message to the inaugurated chairmen, Governor Oyebanji, while commending the prudent management of funds for local development during the previous administration, urged the newly elected leaders to swiftly deliver on their campaign promises.
He called for a strategic approach to achieving the desired development outcomes across diverse localities in Ekiti State.
He also harped on the need for each local council head to strengthen the security architecture of their various domain through the special adviser on security.
Governor Oyebanji also charged the council bosses to device strategic initiatives to improve their internally Generated Revenue IGR base for the benefit of the people.
Prince Michael Ogungbemi, Chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area and spokesperson for the newly sworn-in chairmen, echoes their commitment to aligning with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s six-pillar agenda. The newly inaugurated local government leaders expressed their determination to collaborate in bringing positive development to their respective administrations.
A total of 38 local government chairmen and 177 ward councillors emerged from the local government elections held on December 2, 2023, in Ekiti State.
The newly inaugurated chairmen are set to serve a three-year term, signaling a renewed focus on local governance in the region.
