FESSU President Stresses Support for Ekiti Government Amid Miscommunication

In a clarification statement, the National President of the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union (FESSU), Mr. Abel Ajibade, addressed ongoing rumors regarding the union’s recent activities. He emphasized that mischief makers were responsible for misunderstanding and miscommunication surrounding the decision to shift the union’s congress to Kwara state, incorrectly attributed to insecurity in Ekiti State.

FESSU PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVES WITH THE EKITI STATE GOVERNOR MR BIODUN ABAYOMI OYEBANJI AND SOME MEMBERS OF HIS EXCO MEMBERS.

Mr. Ajibade described these actions as those of unscrupulous individuals seeking to sow discord between the government and the student leadership in Ekiti. The union had multiple reasons to commend the current administration for achievements in the education sector, including an increase in bursaries and scholarships. The union recognized Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s efforts, including the recruitment of teachers, provision of free buses for secondary schools, teacher compensations, and more.

The FESSU President highlighted that the government had always been supportive, and any notion of confrontation was unfounded. Even in cases of agitation, the Governor had been a fatherly figure, accessible to student concerns and engaging in positive interactions. The President underlined the spirit of collaboration, evident in their recent discussions at events like “Youth Let’s Talk with BAO” and an informal meeting during a visit to Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, where the Governor engaged with students.

The original intent to hold the congress in Kwara was to foster inclusivity beyond Ekiti, rather than due to security concerns. The FESSU’s perspective had been misread, and the context of a notification letter was misconstrued. The association had consistently upheld Ekiti State as a bastion of peace, and the concerns raised were politically motivated by those with selfish intentions.

The FESSU reaffirmed its dedication to unity, inclusivity, and the positive relationship with the government. It warned against actions that would disrupt this relationship, emphasizing the importance of cooperation, support, and understanding within the student and governmental community.
