In a profound display of his unwavering commitment to the well-being of children with special needs in Ekiti State, Governor Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has presented a remarkable gift of four buses to three government special schools, significantly alleviating their mobility challenges.
Governor Oyebanji’s dedicated advocacy for the welfare of these remarkable young individuals was brought to fruition in a heartfelt gesture that resonates deeply with his administration’s core values.
Represented by the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Hon. Adetoun Agboola, Governor Oyebanji reassured the people of Ekiti of his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and development.
During the presentation ceremony, Hon. Agboola underscored the origins of this generous act, rooted in Governor Oyebanji’s pledge to address the specific requests of these special schools. These institutions had fervently sought assistance in overcoming mobility challenges, ensuring the safety of their students, and mitigating the financial burden imposed by exorbitant transport fares, which could become even more challenging following the recent removal of fuel subsidies.
This generous offering represents the initial phase of the governor’s commitment to these special schools, with the assurance of three additional buses to follow shortly. Out of the four buses presented, two will serve the school for the physically challenged and those with intellectual disabilities in Ido Ekiti, one will be assigned to the school for the visually impaired in Ikere Ekiti, and the fourth will benefit the special school for the hearing-impaired in Ikoro Ekiti.
Governor Oyebanji’s swift response to the needs of these institutions is grounded in the understanding that, as special schools, some of the children reside on their premises. Consequently, these buses will be indispensable for addressing their transportation requirements as they arise.
The principals of the government special schools expressed profound gratitude for the governor’s thoughtful gesture. Mr. Salami Odunitan Rasak, Principal of the school for the physically challenged in Ido Ekiti, and Mrs. Amogbonjaye Felicia Bola, Principal of the government special school for the visually impaired in Ikere Ekiti, lauded the governor’s genuine concern for the welfare of these exceptional children in the state. They pledged to ensure the buses are meticulously maintained and used for their intended purpose.
Notable attendees at this significant event included Mrs. Mary Oso Omotoso, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Communications, Dr. Mayowa Azeez, Special Adviser on Tertiary Education, and Alhaji Tajudeen Adejumo, Permanent Secretary at the Governor’s Office.
