During the meeting, Hon. Adetoun Agboola highlighted the imperative need for a comprehensive diagnostic system catering specifically to children with disabilities, particularly those admitted to Government Special Schools in Ekiti. Her focus zeroed in on children with hearing impairments, emphasizing the urgency of implementing a structured assessment process to determine the extent of hearing loss among students enrolled in the Special School for the Deaf in Ikoro Ekiti.

This systematic approach, she explained, would enable the government to categorize students accurately, distinguishing between those with partial hearing impairments and those with total deafness. Such differentiation would facilitate the provision of tailored medical attention and support to each child.

Hon. Adetoun Agboola underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that People with Disabilities are fully integrated into the fabric of Ekiti State’s initiatives. She attributed this commitment to the creation of a dedicated office by His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, tasked with safeguarding their welfare and ensuring their comprehensive inclusion in state programs.

In response, Dr. Ogunlusi, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at EKSUTH, conveyed his appreciation for Governor Oyebanji’s dedication to enhancing the lives of People with Disabilities in the state. He assured that the government would make adequate provisions and arrangements for diagnostic aids and surgical requirements, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the diagnostic system.

Furthermore, Dr. Ogunlusi pledged the full cooperation of the hospital’s Management Board, expressing their commitment to collaborating with the Office of the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion. Together, they aim to devise the most effective approach to meet this crucial task and enhance the care and support offered to children with disabilities in Ekiti State.
