Special Road Safety Marshals Rally for Safer Highways: A Collaborative Call.

Special marshals from the Federal Road Safety Corps are advocating for increased collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance road safety for both commuters and motorists.

During the 2023 Sectoral Workshop for Special Marshals, themed “Volunteerism in Road Safety Management: Limits and Possibilities,” Dr. Adedayo Olumuyiwa, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, emphasized their role as the voluntary wing of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). Their primary objective is to partner with uniformed marshals, contributing their time and resources to maintain road safety.

Dr. Olumuyiwa expressed gratitude to the special marshals for their active participation in the workshop, which aims to familiarize them with the opportunities and constraints in ensuring road safety.

At the event, FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu, represented by Corp Commandant Comfort Asom from the headquarters in Abuja, highlighted the significant progress made since his assumption of office in August 2022. He commended the special marshals for their dedication and determination to achieve the FRSC’s strategic goal of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries in Nigeria by 5%.

Biu stressed the importance of reviewing activities and analyzing their impact on reducing road crises, underscoring the purpose of the Sectoral Workshop.

Furthermore, CC Elijah Olusola Joseph, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ekiti, applauded the Special Marshals for their essential role in complementing Regular Marshals in ensuring highway safety. He noted their contributions to public education, traffic control, and road-related research in Ekiti, emphasizing that road safety is a collective responsibility.

The Special Guest of Honor, Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Commissioner for Transport Mr. Kehinde Ajobiewe, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring safety and pledged support for the cause.

Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, represented by Hon. Anthony Adaramodu, reiterated the Assembly’s openness to the special marshals’ input and their dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

In a show of support, Ekiti’s legal luminary, Are Afe Babalola, who was also represented, generously contributed N500,000 towards the mission and vision of the special marshals.
