Ekiti State Governor Appoints Retired General Adewa as New Amotekun Commander.

In a significant development, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has officially announced the selection of Brigadier-General Olu Adewa (rtd) to assume the crucial role of Commander within the State Security Network, widely recognized as the Amotekun Corps.

The baton has been handed over from Brigadier-General Joe Komolafe (rtd), who had presided over the security outfit until this Wednesday.

This transition comes into immediate effect, signifying a pivotal alteration in the leadership of the State Security Network.

Brigadier-General Adewa, a native of Ilogbo-Ekiti, brings with him an illustrious background, having undergone training at the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on December 20, 1986, he was subsequently deployed to the renowned Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers. Additionally, he holds a diploma in Electrical/Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, along with a Master’s of Science degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

His distinguished career has seen him occupy key roles, such as Commanding Officer of Nigeria Battalion 20 in Sudan (May – December 2010) and Brigade Commander for the North East, particularly during the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency (January 2017 – December 2018). Furthermore, his involvement extended to the United Nations Hybrid Mission to Darfur (UNIMID), amongst other significant engagements.

Concurrently, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude towards the former Amotekun Commander, Brigadier-General Komolafe, commending his pivotal role in the establishment of the security framework within the state. The Governor extended well wishes for Brigadier-General Komolafe’s future endeavors.

Governor Oyebanji additionally conveyed his expectations to the incoming Commander, Brigadier-General Adewa. He urged Adewa to deepen the operational effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps while fostering seamless collaboration with other security agencies. This collective effort is poised to eliminate criminal elements from the state and ensure enhanced security for its citizens.
