PALLIATIVES: EKITI GOVERNOR ENGAGES ORGANISED LABOUR IN CRUCIAL TALKStr

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, convened a significant meeting on Thursday with the leadership of Organised Labour, directing a three-man committee from the State Government to finalize proposals for palliative measures. The objective is to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal on the citizens.

During the meeting held in the Governor’s office, the committee and the labour leaders were given a one-week timeframe to deliberate and formulate the proposals. Subsequently, they will present their recommendations to the Governor, who will make a formal pronouncement on the implementable options.

 

State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Olatunde Kolapo; Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Sola Adigun; Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC), Comrade Babatope Ajoloko, and other union officials participated in the discussion.

The Government’s three-man committee, entrusted with this vital task, consists of Mr. Akin Oyebode, the State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development (chairman), Barrister Bamidele Agbede, the Head of Service, and Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services.

Governor Oyebanji emphasized the collaborative approach in making decisions on palliative measures, acknowledging the significant role played by the leadership of Organised Labour. He assured that the proposed palliative measures would address the concerns of not only the general populace but also pensioners and individuals in the informal sector of the economy.

The meeting marked an important step in addressing the impact of subsidy removal on the citizens of Ekiti State. Governor Oyebanji commended the leadership of labour unions in the state and expressed appreciation for the understanding shown by the citizens. The government’s determination to alleviate the challenges arising from the subsidy removal was underscored during the discussions.

In the upcoming week, the committee and Organised Labour leaders will work diligently to finalize their proposals, offering hope for effective measures to ease the burden on the people during this period of transition.
