EKITI OBAS CUP SEASON 2 CLIMAXED WITH DISCOVERY OF PROSPECTIVE FOOTBALL LEGENDS.

The Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti witnessed an enthralling climax as the Ekiti Obas Cup Season 2 reached its pinnacle on Tuesday. A fiercely contested final match unfolded between Oniye FC and Elekole FC, captivating football enthusiasts from across the state.

 

In a thrilling encounter, a single goal proved to be the decisive factor, with Elekole FC emerging triumphant over their worthy opponents. The dynamic play and camaraderie displayed during the match highlighted the deep-rooted familiarity between the coaching staff, even though they had transitioned to new teams from last year.

The lone goal, etched into the annals of victory, was brilliantly netted by the talismanic Peter Daniel just 11 minutes into the second half. Oniye FC’s valiant efforts to find an equalizer were in vain, as Elekole FC’s resilient defense held firm till the final whistle.

Gracing the momentous occasion were the illustrious Ekiti Obas, led by the Chairman of the Obas Council, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon (Onisan of Isan-Ekiti). Their esteemed presence symbolized a strong show of support and encouragement for the Ekiti youth.

 

Among the distinguished royal dignitaries in attendance were the Oniye of Iye-Ekiti and the Elemure of Emure-Ekiti, who accompanied the Onisan in paying homage to the talents on display. The champions, Elekole FC, were rewarded handsomely with the coveted gold trophy, medals, and a generous cash prize, while the runners-up also received medals and well-deserved cash rewards.

A standout performer throughout the tournament, Timileyin Samuel of Alaworoko FC, was rightfully named the Most Valuable Player. His exceptional performance, creativity, diligence, and maturity on the pitch made him a standout talent.

The prestigious trophy and MVP award were generously donated by Johnny Sports merchants, underscoring the immense enthusiasm for the sport in the region. Additionally, Portofino Eatery, Ado-Ekiti, demonstrated its commitment to supporting sports by graciously donating the medals for the two finalists.

The Ekiti Obas Cup Season 2, organized by the passionate and renowned sports journalist and CEO of The Gogetter Multi Links, Qozeem Oladapo, showcased not only the thrilling sporting action but also served as a platform to discover and nurture young talent. Kolawole Olayinka of Elekole FC emerged as the highest goal scorer, while the outstanding skills of Arajaka FC’s goalkeeper, Kayode Araeko, earned him the esteemed title of Best Young Goalkeeper of the tournament.

The organizing committee, spearheaded by Qozeem Oladapo, aka “De Gogetter,” expressed profound appreciation to the Ekiti Obas Council for their unwavering support throughout the competition. Furthermore, they revealed plans to attract sponsorships from corporate entities and private concerns to elevate the annual Youth Soccer Championship to new heights. Promising discussions were also underway with leading betting company BETKING, reflecting the tournament’s growing allure and significance.

In a remarkable gesture, some of the standout players identified during the tournament will be considered for scholarships, courtesy of esteemed royal fathers. These benevolent patrons include the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti, Alara of Aramoko-Ekiti, Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, and Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, all of whom were fittingly named “Pillars of Support” for the competition.

 

Distinguished personalities with a passion for sports were acknowledged and celebrated during the event.

Highlights of the program was the presentation of awards to the Ekiti State Governor Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji honored with The outstanding sportsmanship award of the tournament and others .

 

The Ekiti Obas Cup Season 2 Grand Finale was graced by distinguished guests such as the Chairman of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Sports, Mr. Idowu Odebunmi (Aluta), the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Bamidele Arowosola, retired Permanent Secretary, Mr. Yemi Owoseni, and octogenarian ex-footballer, Pastor Segun Adelakun. The Chairman of Ekiti FA, Chief Olu Oloworemo, was represented by FA Board member, Mr. Gboyega Afolabi, who added to the grandeur of the occasion.

The Ekiti Obas Cup Season 2 came to an unforgettable conclusion, leaving a legacy of sporting excellence and camaraderie. The unwavering support of the Ekiti Obas Council and the collective efforts of sports enthusiasts and visionaries have laid the foundation for a brighter futEure for sports in Ekiti State.
