Subsidy: Tinubu seeks N500bn for palliatives
President, Bola Tinubu, has written to the House of Representatives seeking to source N500 billion for palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
The amendment, he said, was to allow the Federal Government
Confirming this, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the president’s letter during plenary on Wednesday, noting that it was a letter of request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act.
Tinubu said the money would be sourced from the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act of N819.5 billion, pointing out that the request become necessary in order to source for funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
The speaker however said the lawmakers would consider Tinubu’s request at plenary on Thursday.
