Academic Lecture has officially commenced at the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, FUTES, Iyin-Ekiti, as the Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, flagged off the 2025/2026 First Semester Lecture Time Table for undergraduate students and pioneer students of the university.

The students who were visibly happy with enthusiasm arrived and were seated in their class between 7:30 and 7:55 am, while the Vice Chancellor Professor Aribisala started a lecture on the dot of eight o’clock in the morning, teaching the students Introduction to Physics.
While encouraging the students to take advantage of the platform provided by the Federal on quality tertiary education, Professor Aribisala said FUTES was ready to correct some of the teething problems in university education with a call on them to cultivate reading culture, always come to class, shun occultic group and ask questions whenever they are confuse or not really understand whatever topics they are being thought.

He noted that some of the major issues with many tertiary institutions in Nigeria were the problem of delivery of lectures and quality, saying that Lecturers must brace up to meet the current trend in academics.

Professor Aribisala said that the university management would not tolerate any lecturer who would always fail to come to class and later show up just a month before exams and begin to rush students.
Professor Aribisala said that “lecturers must come for their classes, it is compulsory here, it’s not that you miss your classes and then one month to exams, or two weeks to the exam you are now rushing the students. No, no, such an attitude would not be allowed here, we must observe all the lectures as put in the timetable and if a lecture is two hours, the lecturer must engage the students for the two hours not that you do 30 minutes or one hour and then you go. These are some of the things we are trying to address because some of these attitudes could not help at all, and I, as a Vice Chancellor, could not tolerate it”.
”Yes, the major challenge FUTES is out to correct in the tertiary education system now is problems of lecture delivery and quality of Lectures. To correct these, it means we need to have the kind of facilities that would assist students in learning. Sample, this morning now, we started with a kind of powerpoint presentation so that all students can follow the class when you just begin to teach and when you do not use some of these latest facilities, then the attention of students are not what it should be, so that generally the quality of teaching would improve and the quality of graduates can be better.”
Professor Aribisala explained that “then the other one is in skills, not just the knowledge now, but what kind of skills? And then number three, we are looking at the students’ behaviours. When we are talking about student behaviour, what exactly are we talking about? Students’ attitude to lectures, students’ attitude to reading, and making sure that students always do their assignments and not just roam the streets in the evening.
The FUTES Vice Chancellor, however, observed that with the number of students who attended lectures, the school management would now divide them into their classes to create a conducive academic environment and a productive class for learning.
While speaking about how impressed he was with the turnout of students to the lecture, Professor Aribisala promised to address whatever challenges the students might be facing, saying that his door is open for any student to complain, ask questions when they are confused, and should not be too shy to approach staff for assistance.
”If there are issues, they should bring them to my attention, because every day there will be issues. So, if there are issues, they should bring them to my attention. Then they should make sure they go to the library, if it can contain them, but at least they can borrow books from them, and read rather than roaming around in the evenings”.
He called on students who were just resuming and arriving to complete their registration on time, and always related with their colleagues with mutual respect, saying that the university management would not tolerate any negative act that could portray the institution in a bad light.
”The academic calendar is out, we have started lectures now, exams will be sometime in April. Some students are still arriving. The university opened for academic work two weeks ago, and students are still arriving”.
