Ekiti state Accounting officers laud National tax reforms, promises improved public service delivery

Ekiti Accounting Officers Forum Convene first year 2026 Meeting, Focus on Tax Reform and Financial Management.

The Forum of Accounting Officers in Ekiti State held its first meeting for the year 2026 on Tuesday, at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti. The meeting was marked by a warm New Year greeting from the Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, setting a collaborative tone for the year ahead.

The session proceeded with the introduction of Mr. Olaniran Olatona, Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), and his distinguished team, who were present at the invitation of the Head of Service. Mr. Olatona delivered a comprehensive and insightful lecture titled “An Overview of the Nigeria Tax Reform Act: Implications for Ekiti Civil Servants.”

This lucid presentation served to illuminate the intricacies of the new Act, effectively clarifying ambiguities, dispelling misconceptions, and addressing the various myths and fears surrounding the tax legislation. Attendees were thoroughly equipped with accurate and adequate knowledge on the subject, which is intended to be cascaded down to officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). A large number of the Accounting officers observed that Civil Servants were actually paying less with these reforms while the tax exemptions on basic food items,education and health commodities as well as some Agriculture inputs could facilitate lower cost of these items to all consumers.


Following the tax reform discussion, Mr. Olatona further enriched the forum with a lecture on Financial Management. This segment delved into crucial financial concepts such as financial literacy, financial intelligence, financial priority, assets, liabilities, trade, and investment principles. These principles were thoroughly explained with practical, day-to-day examples, making complex financial ideas accessible and relatable to all participants.
The enthusiastic engagement of the attendees, evident through their questions, contributions, and responses, underscored their keen interest and readiness to implement the valuable knowledge gained from these free and impactful sessions. The Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Olatona for his generosity in sharing his extensive expertise with the forum. She further acknowledged the pivotal role of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in facilitating this meeting, fulfilling one of his shared prosperity mantra while honing professionalism in the public service of Ekiti state. Participants described the meeting as very successful and promised improved public service with the knowledge gained.
